A year-long photographic treasure chest

Turns out we are not as ready for Sandy as we thought. The power is out (water too) and it could be 4-7 days before it returns. We went for a walk to explore the damage and came upon a powerless convenience store in Soho trying to sell what it could to people like us. We stocked up on a few supplies and lots of water, hoping it will last as long as we need it to.

Good thing I bought a flashlight (along with plenty of wine and cheese). We are anticipating a power loss any minute now. We’re ready for you Sandy!

So apparently there is a hurricane headed this way? Wonder if that means I’ll be working solo on Monday? Being walking distance from the office has its advantages and disadvantages, to be sure. Here’s hoping the storm isn’t as bad as they’re saying, because Nathan and I are a bit low on survival supplies. Do we even own a flashlight?

Busy day at the office today, but Tribeca sunshine makes it better.

What to do on a sad day of goodbyes? Two glasses of red, please. (Enjoyed only after epic workouts, I might add. We have to start paying for the good lives we’ve been living of late.)

When I remember their visit and the happiness of the past two weeks, I will think of this picture.

We’ve had so many fabulous meals to commemorate Allan & Julie’s trip to New York so, with only two days until goodbye, why stop now? Tonight, while Manhattan was doused with autumn rain, we were cozy inside Perry Street, indulging on calamari, short rib, pork belly, fine wine and decadent desserts. Nathan and I are surely about to endure fine dining withdrawal when our visitors depart.

I was reminded of the importance of family yesterday and am reminded even more so today, as Nathan and I become painfully aware of his parent’s looming departure date. We are making the most of our remaining time together, including a special dinner tonight at Tribeca Grill, a favorite restaurant from the last time Julie & Allan visited. Luckily, it lived up to their fond memories tonight and we created new ones as we broke out a nice bottle of red that Nathan and I picked up on our recent trip to Napa. It was beautiful, and I can think of no one I would have rather shared it with.

Ah, Moms/Mums sure are sweet, aren’t they? I was flipping through a recipe book from my mom with Nathan’s mum tonight and happened upon a baked goodie that I am most certainly going to request for our upcoming visit over Thanksgiving. As I was explaining the history of the recipe book and the amount of effort that my mom put into it in order to present it to me as a Christmas gift last year and realized just how heartfelt and special it was. Like the recipes we have known (or in my case, enjoyed) forever, we sometimes take our loved ones for granted at times, until something small reminds us how lucky we truly are.

Eleven days until Halloween. I love the this time of year!

So sad to leave this pretty place today. But as I like to say, don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

Another day in our little paradise. The highlight of this trip (besides the food and amazing weather) has been our nightly, wine-filled chats at the firepit before dinner. Family + flames + fine wine = fabulousness.

I have decided that this is my favorite place in the entire world. I have such happy memories of getaways here at the Stone House in Little Compton, and am looking forward to making more over the next few days.

Time to leave these city lights behind and hit the road in the direction of my happy place. Tomorrow we drive to Little Compton. Can’t wait!

With the Synes in town, our cork canister has been filling up extra quickly. And today, poor Nathan injured his back, so we had no choice but to cancel our dinner plans, stay in and drink more wine. Here’s hoping that tonight’s wine helps him to feel better tomorrow!
